This year’s Ormidale 10k race was contested by 49 runners in ideal conditions last Sunday.
The atmosphere before the race was one of relaxed anticipation, and there were many familiar faces amongst the participants limbering up with gentle trots and stretches. There was an excellent local turnout with a particularly strong showing from local ladies. There were also four runners from the ‘Wobbly Williams Running Team’, running to raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease. Bryn Williams who completed the race in 1h2m23s was diagnosed with Parkinson’s two years ago at just 36 years old, and he hopes to raise £50,000 for Parkinson’s Disease research this year through participation in a number of 10k runs and other events.
First over the line was David Simpson from Carnegie at 31m56s – he was running this race for the first time, as was the second placed runner, William (Jamie) Findlay from Irvine AC, timed at 32m43s. Race regular Kerry-Liam Wilson of Ronhill Cambuslang came in third at 32m52s. Alison Winship of Garscube Harriers had the winning ladies’ time at 39m12s – she is a familiar face at the Ormidale 10k, and has won before.
Fastest young local this year was Cameron Paul who came in 11th at 38m24s, while first Arran runner over the line was Nick Emsley in 6th place overall. Kirstie Barton was Arran’s fastest lady participant at 45m26s.
