Katy Clark MP, Kenneth Gibson MSP, David O’Neill, Leader of NAC and John Michel, NAC Senior Planning Officer, will all be at the Ormidale Sports Pavilion next month (date to be confirmed) for a locally televised Question Time. The event has been set up by the Transition movement, which aims to bring about changes to the way we live, with the aim of making our communities more sustainable and independent. All members of the public are invited to grab this rare opportunity to question current policies and encourage our foremost leading figures to support us in our bid to help Arran and Holy Isle to become more self-sufficient.
As we can all see, the world economy has gone to pot; food and energy supplies look less dependable and the bottom has fallen out of the housing market. Life as we know it is definitely changing, and people everywhere are starting to adapt. Over the summer a number of people in the Transition movement have been researching what’s working best in other parts of the country. Many areas have already found good ways to be less reliant on ever-dwindling global resources, and it’s time to share these ideas with the politicians and local government leaders who have generously agreed to participate in this public debate, and ask their opinion and advice. The debate will be recorded by TV cameras, and Arran's Keith Robertson will be stepping into David Dimbleby’s shoes as question master. Unlike the popular BBC programme however, ours will not be a political point scoring exercise; our aim is to gain consensus and agreement on how best to achieve sustainability.
For this reason we intend to circulate a number of your questions to the panellists in advance so they can do their homework and come well prepared. If you would like to ask a question about energy, food, transport, or any other subject related to the sustainability of our islands, please put it in writing to me, Chris Attkins at Belvedere, Alma Road, Brodick, Arran KA27 8AZ, or e-mail chris@vision-unlimited.co.uk.
