Xmas double issue
The double-number editorial thanks all who have contributed so significantly to The Arran Voice in its first 40 weeks.

Because Christmas Day falls on a Tuesday, when we would normally be putting the paper together, the production team decided to award itself the week off. There being no Scrooge in our office to crack the whip over the cowering workers, The Arran Voice will not appear next week. However, we have packed as much good stuff as we can devise into this double-sized, two-week issue, which we hope will provide some entertainment in the fourteen festive days that lie ahead. Our New Year issue will appear as normal — or as near to normal as things can be at Hopgmanay.
Gifts, like dogs, are not just for Christmas, and we have been touched and grateful for the open-handed contributions of copy and photos that have come in with increasing frequency throughout the months since this paper was born on Good Friday last April. Any list of contributors runs the risk of leaving someone out, and we apologise in advance to anyone whose name does not appear, but we would like to thank the following people. Sue Archer, Jim Arnold, Jan Attkins, Iain Auld, Judith Baines, Assja Baumgartner, Alicja Chudzik, Barney Crockett, Julian Davidson, Lucy Gibbons, Stef Holmer (whose inspired weather forecasting manages to be funny as well as mostly right), Stephanie Jenkins, Robin Jenks, Stephen Mason (for his informative and always interesting Rangers on Record pieces), Ian McMurdo, Maureen Moore, Monika Sobieraj (who with Alicja has been running the Polish page), David Stewart-David, Colin Stobbs, Ian Struthers, John Tilbury, Zoe Tomalin, David Underdown and Jason Watts. Jason’s choice of the weekly poem has added a great thoughtfulness and flavour to the paper.
The production team has seen changes during the past months, but we would like to express our appreciation of the sales management work put in at the beginning by Anne-Laure Dupuis, the design and composition done by Graham Chappell and the early assistance from Janis Heaney. Chris Attkins gave unstinting help in setting up the paper, and earns our endless gratitude. Dave Payn has put in sterling work as a proof-reader, and his crossword puzzles continue to be a joy to many readers.
The present team is great — endlessly resourceful and inventive. When intense work is also fun, you know things are right. We’re now looking for an extra pair of hands to help with the advertising side, and if we can find one more cheerful, adaptable local person to join us, that will be the best Christmas present in the world.
We wish all our readers joy and happiness over this festive season, and a good year to come.
