Isn’t it always funny when you’ve had a weekend with family visiting and then at the end, after they’ve all gone home, the house is so quiet. It’s not like normal silence either, it’s sort of restless silence. The kind you get when there has been lots of loud shouting and then suddenly everyone stops. I’m not sure if it’s like that with all families but it sure is with mine.

Recently a cousin of mine who I haven’t seen for roughly four years came to stay with us, together with my two big brothers. Afterwards, I found myself wandering the house looking for something to keep me amused, and after finishing all my homework, tidying my already clean room (such a rare occurrence) and attempting to flick through the gazillion channels of Sky only to find nothing good was on, I realised that I wasn’t searching for something to do, I was searching for someone other than my mum, dad or sister to talk to. My past few days had been filled with reminiscing and catch-up from my cousin and brothers, and now I was stuck with the same three people to talk to that are always here. It just goes to show that no matter how social you are, you are always going to end up with the same people to talk to (unless of course, unlike me, you have unlimited access to the internet or a mobile phone.) So it makes sense to keep your friends close, your enemies closer and your family even closer than that, so at least you have them to talk to when things go bad, or when your wonderfully talkative relatives leave.

This week’s Wee Voice was written by Stephanie Jenkins and the left-overs of a mock thanksgiving dinner.
